The VARI*LITE VL3000 Spot luminaire is a professional moving head spot fixture built for concerts, touring rigs, and permanent installs that need flexible beam shaping, fast effects, and dependable DMX512 control. It combines a 13-element 6:1 zoom optics system (10° to 60°) with precise color and pattern tools, making it easy to go from tight aerial beams to wide textured coverage without changing fixtures.
Optics, Beam Control, and Output
For clean looks and smooth transitions, the VL3000 Spot includes full field dimming for timed fades or snap effects, plus a mechanical iris for continuous beam size control. Variable beam focus lets you soften gobo edges or keep patterns crisp, and its depth of field capability supports morphing effects between pattern and effects wheels. A high-performance dual blade strobe system delivers ultra-fast strobing when you need aggressive accents or rhythmic hits.
Color and Effects Tools
Color is handled through a three-filter CYM cross-fading mechanism, along with a fixed, six-position color wheel with interchangeable filters and continuous wheel rotation for additional effects. It also includes a variable CTO color temperature correction filter, useful for balancing the fixture to cameras, matching other luminaires on stage, or warming/cooling looks mid-cue.
For texture and motion, three gobo/effects wheels combine to provide 14 rotatable, indexable gobo positions, with one open position on each wheel. This setup supports everything from clean breakups to animated, layered looks while maintaining repeatable positioning for cue-to-cue consistency.
Movement and Control
Smooth, time-controlled continuous motion is driven by three-phase stepper motor systems, with 540° pan and 270° tilt. A 0.3 degree resolution helps keep beam and gobo placement accurate for both wide stage washes and tight special positions. The VL3000 Spot luminaire can be controlled from a wide variety of DMX512 consoles.
Power System
An upper enclosure houses the control electronics as well as the arc power supply for the 1200 watt short arc lamp. The arc power supply is power factor corrected for efficient power distribution.
