The Robert Juliat Lucy is a compact, short-throw followspot designed for theatre and other quiet performance environments where you need high output, fast response, and precise beam control. The short-throw Lucy out-performs Xenon followspots of higher wattage. It is widely used in theatre environments where the combination of a high output, instantaneous re-ignition, silent operation and compact dimensions is a real advantage.

Optics and beam control for tight throws

For operators working close to the stage, Lucy’s SX optical system uses double condenser optics for exceptional optical quality. Variable zoom optics keep focus sharp across beam angles, with independent control of image size and focus. An easy focus reference (graduated scale on the side of the unit) helps speed refocusing during changeovers.

Fast shaping, color, and texture changes

The fully closing iris cassette is removable for fast, easy replacement, with a protective backplate designed for extended lifespan. For beam texture and image projection, Lucy includes a universal adjustable gobo holder for “A” size glass and metal gobos, with excellent gobo projection. A frost filter on a flip lever provides a quick soft-edge beam effect, and an internal glass filter holder supports durable colored, dichroic, or textured glass for long-term use.

Color handling is built for live operation, with individually removable color frames (so gels can be replaced while the color cassette remains in place) and a 6-way, push/pull color changer system for simultaneous use of multiple filters.

Operator-friendly handling and stable positioning

Lucy’s ergonomic dimmer control supports one-handed dim, pan, and tilt, and can be adjusted to suit the operator’s preference. The smooth dimmer shutter is designed to retain a flat beam and color temperature when dimming. For accurate cueing, fine balance enables precision positioning and smooth operation even with very small movements.

For setup and day-to-day use, the stand is perfectly weighted for maximum stability with smooth rotation for optimum performance, and it is designed for easy setup with a triple safety system for extra security. The factory set optical train travels safely within the followspot and requires no time-consuming realignment on arrival, helping maintain a uniform beam across followspots of the same type.
