This MA Lighting NPU Network Processing Unit was manufactured in 2013 and was used for previsualization purposes. It shows signs of wear and is in good working condition.

The MA Lighting NPU (Network Processing Unit) centralizes processing power on your network, delivering performance equivalent to grandMA2 consoles while expanding the available parameters in an MA system. It is designed to link Ethernet-based control data to DMX-controlled fixtures, making it a practical choice for building or expanding a grandMA2-based network for visualization, programming, and show control.

Network Processing and DMX Output

For decentralized DMX networks, the MA NPU converts incoming Ethernet data into DMX data and transmits it through 8 independent DMX XLR 5-pin connectors on the rear panel. Each connector can be configured as a DMX input or output, which supports flexible routing for distributed rigs, remote output locations, and streamlined troubleshooting.

Parameter Expansion for grandMA2 Systems

The MA NPU adds processing power and parameters to the MA system and offers and handles 4,096 parameters. Within a network, several grandMA2 consoles can share available MA NPU devices. For parameter expansion, the MA NPU is typically placed in a centralized position, while MA xPort Nodes are used to distribute and output DMX data. This enables DMX devices to be used by several consoles together and provides a redundant mode of operation without additional components such as DMX mergers.

Touchscreen Monitoring and Connectivity

An easy-to-read touchscreen supports intuitive operation and quick access to key status information. Connectivity includes 1 Ethercon connector and 4 USB 2.0 connectors, plus 1 internal command screen for on-unit interaction and monitoring.
