The MA Lighting NPU Network Processing Unit (8GB) adds dedicated processing and DMX connectivity to a grandMA2 network, acting as the bridge between Ethernet control data and DMX-controlled fixtures. It is designed for touring and production workflows where you need reliable parameter expansion, flexible DMX routing, and the ability to share processing resources across multiple grandMA2 consoles.

grandMA2 Network Processing and Parameter Expansion

The MA NPU (Network Processing Unit) unites the calculation power in the network and offers the same performance as the grandMA2 consoles. The MA NPU offers and handles 4,096 parameters. This makes it a practical way to expand a system where additional parameters are required, or to centralize processing so multiple consoles on the network can access available MA NPU devices.

Ethernet-to-DMX Conversion for Decentralized Systems

For decentralized DMX networks, the MA NPU converts incoming Ethernet data into DMX data. The converted data are transmitted via 8 independent DMX connectors, which can be configured as DMX inputs or outputs. This enables flexible patching and distribution in venues, touring rigs, and multi-position control setups, without requiring additional components such as DMX mergers for redundancy workflows described by the manufacturer.

Hardware I/O and Physical Specs

With an easy to read touchscreen the MA NPU allows intuitive use and easy access to all the important information. 8 x DMX XLR 5-pin connectors on the rear side of the MA NPU allow a most flexible use within the network environment. Connectivity includes 1 Ethercon connector and 4 USB 2.0 connectors, plus 1 internal command screen. The unit supports grandMA series 1 compatibility mode and can convert grandMA2 onPC to a full featured lighting control system.
