The Grass Valley 6RU K-Frame Video Production Center, Compact Switcher is a multi-format digital production switcher built for live studio, mobile truck, and post-production workflows where you need high input density, robust keying, and flexible effects. The K-Frame family is designed to scale from straightforward switching to complex multi-layer productions without changing platforms.
Production Switching and Signal Processing
The K-Frame Video Processor is the heart of the system, providing extensive video switching and signal processing capabilities. With support for up to 80 inputs and 48 outputs, it is well suited for facilities and trucks that need to manage multiple sources, destinations, and clean feeds.
Keyers, M/Es, and Effects Control
Configuration options include up to 5 M/Es accessible across two suites, increased to 10 virtual M/Es by using DoubleTake. Every M/E has six keyers with standard keying modes including Chroma Key, plus two frame stores per keyer. For sizing and repositioning, 2D-DPMs (resizers) are available on every keyer.
The Controller M/E includes a complement of 6 full keyers with Chroma Key and 2D-DPMs. Up to 8 iDPMs (Integrated Digital Picture Manipulators) can be assigned as either floating iDPMs or within an eDPM at the user’s discretion. Every keyer except for Controller M/E can use the pool of floating 3D iDPMs.
Format Support and System Integration
This is a fully digital 10-bit 4:2:2 video switcher, including Future-Ready 4K and 1080p (level A or B) support, making it a practical fit for mixed-format environments and modern signal paths.
For integrated control-room operation, it interfaces with Grass Valley routers and Kaleido Multiviewers and their control systems. It also supports LDK Series and LDX Series camera control with Ethernet tally via Connect Gateway, plus Ethernet tally connection for integration with external tally systems. Stadium and venue workflows are supported via VDCP Ethernet connection.
Macros, Memory, and Operational Workflow
For repeatable shows and rapid recalls, it supports up to 999 macros, with multiple ways to recall macros from the Control Panel, and 1,000 E-MEM registers with Define E-MEM for fine control when creating and editing effects. The integrated Macro Builder/Editor allows users to edit macros online or offline on a PC running the menu application. Aux bus transitions enable dissolves and wipes on aux bus outputs.
