The Behringer Eurorack MX3242X mixer is built for both live sound reinforcement and studio recording, with a flexible routing layout that adapts to multi-track workflows, sub-mixing, and monitoring-heavy setups. Various modifications enable you to customize the console to suit your specific requirements. You can use the EURORACK as a recording or live console, as a live console with simultaneous multi-track recording facilities, as a sub-mixer, surround mixer, etc.

Hybrid Split/Inline Workflow for Recording and Mixdown

The EURORACK MX3242X is a cross between “split” and “inline” designs. The input channels are located in the larger left-hand section of the console, while the outputs to a multi-track recorder can be found on the right (Subgroups). In contrast to conventional “split” consoles, however, the Tape Returns coming from the multi-track recorder (feeding the tape signal back to the mixer) are not located in the outputs section but are integrated in the input channels (as it is typical of an “inline” console). Thus, the input channel functions can also be used for the Tape Returns. And later, during the mixdown this design ensures a signal path that is as short as possible.

Inputs, Preamps, and Channel Control

For microphones and instruments, the mixer provides 16 microphone input channels with gold-plated XLRs, balanced TRS jacks, inserts, and direct outputs, plus ultra-low noise discrete mic preamps with +48 V phantom power and a switchable low cut filter. For line-level sources, there are 16 line input channels using balanced TRS jack connectors, making it easy to connect synths, playback devices, outboard preamps, and more without sacrificing signal integrity.

Routing, Subgroups, and Monitoring Flexibility

Routing is designed for practical live and studio control, with 4 subgroups featuring independent pan control, solo and Main Mix switches, and inserts for processing groups of channels. The MX3242X also includes 2 pre/post and 4 post-fader aux sends for flexible monitor mixes and effects routing, along with 6 master aux sends with gain control and solo switches. For returns and integration of external processing, you get 4 stereo aux returns with separate level and pan controls, plus solo and routing switches.

EQ, Metering, and Built-In Effects

Each channel includes the EURODESK 4-band EQ with two sweepable mids and an I/O switch, making it straightforward to shape vocals, drums, and instruments while keeping a consistent workflow across channels. Visual feedback and control are handled by LED-controlled mute and Solo-In-Place / Pre-Fader-Listen functions on all channels, plus accurate 8-segment bargraph meters on all channels, subgroups, and the main mix.

For onboard processing, the mixer features a 24-bit stereo multi-effects processor with ultra-high resolution 46 kHz, 20-bit AD/DA converters and 32 original VIRTUALIZER presets, including 16 different reverbs, delays, chorus, flanger, pitch shifter, speaker simulation, and combination effects. Balanced inputs and main outputs support high signal integrity, and the extremely high headroom is designed to provide a huge dynamic range for demanding mixes.

Faders, Outputs, and Physical Specs

The MX3242X uses ultra-high quality 100 mm faders for all channels, subgroups, and the main mix, plus separate Main Mix, Control Room, and headphone outputs for streamlined FOH and monitoring control. An extremely versatile headphone and talkback section supports communication and cueing during sessions and performances.
