The Hitachi SK-HD1000 Handheld HDTV Production Camera Package is a multi-standard portable HD studio and EFP camera system designed for live production, broadcast trucks, houses of worship, and event coverage where clean, detailed images and robust system integration matter. Outstanding images are acquired by three (R,G,B) 2.3 megapixel UAIT (Ultra-Advanced) CCDs. The camera offers sharper and cleaner HD images due to our newest CCD sensors and processed by 30-bit Hitachi DSPs. Hitachi's implementation of the most advanced digital processing technology provides low-noise and high dynamic range pictures. The camera system is able to output dual formats simultaneously (SD and 1080i /720p).

Broadcast Image Performance

Built around 2/3-inch 1080/60i UAIT-CCDs and 30-bit-per-channel Hitachi processing, the SK-HD1000 is engineered for high-detail acquisition (listed at 1,100 TVL) and a low-noise signal path (listed at > 60 dB S/N for 1080/60p without noise reduction). In practice, this supports sharper edges, cleaner shadows, and more usable latitude for challenging stages, mixed lighting, and fast-paced EFP work.

System Integration and Long-Distance Connectivity

The camera supports full or half-rack SMPTE fiber CCUs or Hitachi’s patented Digital Triax CCU, making it suitable for fixed installations and mobile production workflows. Operational distance is listed up to 3 km (about 9,842 ft.) over SMPTE fiber, with single-mode fiber listed up to 10 km (about 33,000 ft.) without external adapters, accessories or mods. It can operate with SMPTE hybrid fiber, or use single-mode with external camera head power.

Viewfinding, Setup, and Paint Control

For production crews that need fast setup and consistent matching, the system includes professional setup and painting tools such as full automatic setup using Gray Scale, HD signal linear masking and 12-vector color painting, independent control of HD and SDTV detail, plus Ultra Gamma (selectable Gamma table with 7 presets). Preset Masking is provided with six settings (DEFAULT, ITU-709, SMPTE-240M, SMPT-WIDE, NTSC, EBU), along with 2-channel skin-tone masking and multiple memories.

Lens and Pro Production Workflow Features

The SK-HD1000 is listed as compatible with all Fujinon Precision Focus lenses and includes digital registration of lens’ lateral chromatic aberration adjustment. RLACTM (Real-time Lens Aberration Correction) is also included to help improve performance with 2/3-inch HDTV lenses. Additional workflow features include prompter video output and AC power at the camera head, an independent HD-SDI VF output for crane or Jib installations, VF focus assist (area marker, focus indicator and gauge), direct data transfer from SU or SD memory cards used at camera head and control panels, and real-time and offline diagnostics with character display superimposed on PIX video output.
