Why Use a Top Hat

Sometimes poor fixture optics or poorly maintained lenses can cause light to be directed into the audience or onto scenery, and top hats can help control that. It is also often objectionable to the audience or camera to see the bright source of the light, and top hats can shield the bright source from view. This makes them especially useful for front light, low trim positions, or any hang where the lens may be visible from seats or on-camera angles.

Glare and Spill Control

Black flocked interior is standard on all black top hats and half top hats for maximum reduction of glare and spill. The flocking helps minimize internal reflections, so more of the output stays where you aim it instead of bouncing back toward sightlines.
