The Doug Fleenor Preset 10 Portable [PRE10P] can act as a backup for DMX512 lighting consoles or as a stand-alone DMX512 preset console. The PRE10P is a DMX512 playback device that can take up to ten snapshots from a DMX console and play them back at the press of a button. Fade times can be set from 0 to 999 seconds (default is 2 seconds), making it easy to build smooth crossfades for scene changes, walk-in looks, or emergency states.

Backup Operation for Console Failover

When operating as a backup device, the PRE10P monitors the DMX512 output from your lighting console. If console output is lost, it begins transmitting to maintain the current look and alerts the user to the loss of DMX. Crossfading to any of the stored presets is then initiated by pressing a preset button, helping you keep a show, event, or venue lighting stable even if the primary console stops sending DMX.

Hands-On Preset Playback

For simple systems or quick recall, the PRE10P provides ten preset push buttons with ten green preset indicator LEDs for clear at-a-glance status. A red Signal/Record LED and recessed record and fade time push buttons support setup while reducing accidental changes during operation.

DMX512 Connectivity and Electrical Details

Connections are built around DMX512 XLR, with an input of 5 pin male, gold plated contacts (3 pin connectors optional) and an output of 5 pin female, gold plated contacts (3 pin connectors optional). Connector pin out: 1 - DMX512 common, 2 - DMX512 data -, 3 - DMX512 data +, 4 - Passed Through, 5 - Passed Through. The input/output circuit uses an ESD protected EIA-485 transceiver (LT1785) for robust signal handling in typical production and installation environments.
