NEW Doug Fleenor Gizmo

The NEW Doug Fleenor Gizmo is a DMX512 test tool with features useful for lighting system setup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning. With the Gizmo you can transmit, receive, save, playback scenes and perform a variety of data and cable tests, making it easy to verify control data at the console, at a node, or at a fixture.

DMX512 Testing for Setup and Troubleshooting

Use the Gizmo to transmit up to 512 channels of DMX512 when you need a known-good signal for commissioning or isolating faults. It can also receive DMX512, helping you confirm that data is present and behaving as expected when tracking down intermittent issues or signal integrity problems.

Direct channel access while sending or receiving DMX512 signals is possible through the use of the numeric keypad, which speeds up patch checks, focus sessions, and quick validation of specific channels without stepping through menus.

Scene Capture and Playback

For repeatable checks and quick comparisons, the Gizmo can save and recall 100 scenes. This is useful for storing baseline looks, recreating test states, or verifying that a repair or cable swap restored consistent output.

Cable and Data Reliability Checks

Continuity, pin correctness and data reliability tests help identify common wiring and connector issues that can cause flicker, dropout, or fixtures not responding correctly, especially in long runs or temporary installs.

Rugged, Field-Ready Hardware

It is housed in a rugged chassis made of 0.1" thick aluminum. The display is a back lit 16 character by 2 line LCD for clear readout in dim control rooms or backstage environments. The durable metal housing and 25 button key pad are designed for repeated, hands-on use during load-ins and maintenance calls.

Power Options and Signal Handling

The Gizmo supports 9 Volt battery or AC power operation. A fitted carrying case and wall transformer/battery charger are included with each Gizmo. The Gizmo has a fully opto-isolated DMX512 input. The DMX512 output can function as an isolated pass-thru which also re-times the signal.
