NEW Doug Fleenor Apathy

The NEW Doug Fleenor Apathy is a compact, single-channel DMX512 console designed for quick, hands-on control when you need a simple level source on a DMX line. By default, all 512 DMX512 levels are patched to its single control knob, letting you bring an entire universe up or down together. Using the Apathy function button, you can assign control of a single DMX dimmer to the knob for focused, one-channel operation.

How It Works in Real Setups

In its most basic mode the Apathy allows you to command all 512 DMX dimmers to the same level using the single intuitive control knob. This can be useful for quick checks, temporary control in a pinch, or straightforward intensity control without bringing a full console on site. When you need to isolate one address, the same hardware can be switched to single-dimmer control via the function button.

DMX Output and Performance

Apathy outputs standard DMX512 at a 250 Kilobaud baud rate. Under external power it provides a 22Hz continuous update, and under battery power saver mode it updates at 30Hz when fading and 2Hz when idle. Output is via a gold plated 5-pin female connector (Neutrik D1 series) for reliable connection in professional DMX chains.

Power and Physical Design

The unit is battery powered by an included 9V battery, and it also includes a jack for an owner-provided external PSU. The chassis is tenth inch aluminum with rubber feet, and mounting is supported via four corner holes plus a single 1/2" hole to accommodate a range of install and rigging options. Finish details include black front, top, and bottom, with silver Hammertone back and sides. Size and weight are 4" x 2.5" x 2.25", 0.75 lbs.
